Locklin bio

I am a published historian who has served as a professor of history at Maryville College in East Tennessee since 2000. I teach a “History of Murder” class, and it is one of my most popular offerings, though my “History of Witch Hunts” and “Medieval Love” classes come close. I speak often on general history topics and work with teachers and researchers at all levels. I am a member of Sisters in Crime and a regular contributor to the Remedial Herstory Project.

My husband, Doug Sofer, is also a historian and colleague at Maryville College. He entertains while he educates at his “You Are a Weirdo” podcast and his “Find Yourself in History” website.  Our son is a teenager who keeps us on our toes and is a constant source of hilarity. Our dog, Ranger, cuddles me while I grade or takes me on long walks in our gorgeous east Tennessee hometown.

We eat quite well as we love to cook and are constantly exploring historical and global cuisines. Even this aspect of life has found its way into my historical lens, as students in my “American Social History through Cookbooks” can attest. I am a born story teller and sleuth—give me an interesting topic and I will pursue it like a bloodhound an a trail.
